Aeris Android SDK v2.2.0 is now available! SDK v2.2.0 is a feature release providing a couple of new endpoints, some additional data fields, and a new map points layer. From the rolling rivers to the sun and moon in the sky, we’ve got data for everyone with this update!
Aeris API provides such a wide variety of information, it can be tough keeping up with the latest additions. One of the newer endpoints available is Rivers. You can use the Rivers endpoint to get access to the latest river and lakes gauge observations. Using NOAA’s Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS) river gauge observations, the endpoint provides information on the current water level or flow, flood stages, and low water thresholds.
More information on the specifics of the Rivers endpoint is located at the Rivers Endpoint. You’ll likely use this endpoint when you’re just looking for the generic river stage data. For more detailed river info, check out the Rivers Gauge endpoint below.
Aeris Android SDK v2.2.0 also adds the companion data to the above-mentioned Rivers endpoint, Rivers/Gauges. With the Rivers Gauges (rivers/gauges) endpoint, you have access to enhanced information for the river and lake gauges utilized within the rivers endpoint. As with the Rivers endpoint, the primary source for the gauge information is the NOAA Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service (AHPS).
For Rivers Gauges, the gauge information includes location information as well as recent and historical crests and potential flood impacts.

An example of using this endpoint is with the Rivers point data layer, providing more details when a user selects a river gauge marker on your map.

To round out our river data updates, within the maps library we added the Rivers point data layer.
Using this point data layer with the info from the River Gauge endpoint, is a great way to provide an detailed interactive map for rivers and their gauges!
Finally, Aeris Android SDK v2.2.0 includes some additional Sun and Moon data. Aeris API has lots of interesting and useful data in the Sun and Moon (sunmoon) endpoint. Now all of that data is part of the Android SDK as well. This includes a boolean indicator for Midnight Sun (when the sun never quite fully sets), the Polar Night (when the sun never quite fully rises), the transit data, underfoot data and much more. If you’ve ever wanted to know where and when you can mow your lawn at 2:00 am, this is the data for you!
