Create Faster Animated Weather Maps Using Multiple Tile Servers and the Google Maps API

One of the most challenging elements of utilizing large volumes of weather data for business can be performance. With weather as an input to nearly every industry in some regard, the importance of consistent, fast data retrieval and rendering is paramount. Loading high-resolution and layered imagery inefficiently can dramatically interrupt the smoothness of utilizing interactive and animated map elements within any application, online or otherwise. Fortunately for AerisWeather users, one can call upon multiple tile servers working in unison to dramatically increase render speed. Many customers already have integrations with third-party mapping platforms like Google, Mapbox, or Leaflet, so in...

Animating AMP Layers with Mapbox GL

The AerisWeather Mapping Platform (AMP) boasts a versatile range of capabilities. AMP allows users to generate static maps, interactive tiles, and animations. Along with various methods to display you maps, AMP can be utilized as a 3rd party source in most mapping libraries. Let’s take a minute to discuss how easy it is to add an animation to an existing Mapbox GL application. For the tl;dr version, check out our live example. Choose Your Implementation Method We have a couple options you may want to explore. Using the AerisWeather JS SDK, adding an interactive animation is simple by combining the existing map and...

New Global Radar Enhancements

In February, we released our Global Radar (Derived) for the AerisWeather Mapping Platform (AMP). Following the release, we received very positive feedback as well as some suggestions for improvements. We’ve listened to all the feedback and this week released a significant update to this layer! Global Radar Combined with Actual Radar Data The global radar layer now combines our standard radar with the derived radar.   With this change, areas including the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, and others display the same radar information as our standard radar layer. Other locations, such as Africa and South America, will utilize the derived radar...

Integrating Weather Map Layers into QGIS via AerisWeather Mapping Platform (AMP)

Update: Please utilize resolved URLs for the moment when following this tutorial, including specifying a time offset. We are actively exploring resolutions to known issues when using map tile URLs ending in current.png within XYZ tile layers. GIS technologies have been revolutionizing the science of geospatial analysis since their inception. These powerful tools have been continuously and rapidly advancing to visualize and aid in solving problems. Here at AerisWeather, we use them regularly to model and test our own weather data and imagery, but also to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographical data in unison...
