Google Maps Support

The AerisMap.framework component of the SDK supports the use of Google Maps iOS SDK with your weather maps in place of the default Apple Map tiles in MapKit. While much of the functionality is the same between the use of Apple Maps compared to Google Maps, there are some limitations with more advanced customizations and effects for various map overlay objects.

Adding Google Maps Support

In order to use Google Maps with your weather maps, you will need to perform the following additional steps:

  1. Download the latest version of the Google Maps iOS SDK. The AerisWeather iOS SDK has been tested against version 1.8 and higher.
  2. Install the Google Maps iOS SDK into your project by following the installation instructions provided by Google.
  3. Import the AerisGoogleMap.framework component of the AerisWeather iOS SDK into your project. This is an extension library on top of the core AerisMap.framework component that adds the required Google Maps functionality.
  4. Set your weather map’s weatherMapType property to AWFWeatherMapTypeGoogle.

Known Limitations

There are a few limitations to be aware of when using Google Maps with the AerisWeather SDK:

  • Annotations cannot be animated due to the way in which map objects are rendered by the Google Maps SDK. Only static images will be used.
