...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM MDT /9 PM CDT/ THIS EVENING TO 3 AM MDT /4 AM CDT/ FRIDAY...

* WHAT...Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Kansas.

* WHEN...From 8 PM MDT /9 PM CDT/ this evening to 3 AM MDT /4 AM CDT/ Friday.

* IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles as a sudden onset of high winds is expected.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A cold front looks to move through the area this evening starting after 8 PM MDT this evening and then progressing to the southeast through the next few hours. Counties in the southern and southeast portions of the warning may not experience the strong winds for a few hours after the issuance of the warning.

Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive.

* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 013 Sherman, 027 Wallace, 041 Greeley, 253 Kit Carson and 254 Cheyenne.

* WINDS...Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts around 30 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Around 10 percent.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

* Additional Details... A cold front and its associated wind shift will move through the warning area during the early to mid evening hours, shifting winds to the north with gusts around 50 mph; locally higher gusts may be possible.
